The Foundation has been busy with new partnerships and other new developments, so lets catch up from where we dropped off in the last quarter.
The 2020 LFN farmers and youths training session was interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in the closure of schools across the country with the aim to curb the spread of the virus.
We are glad to inform you that training activities for the 2020 session have resumed fully across our training centres and we are happy to have our trainees back.
Leventis Foundation Nigeria and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) signed an MOU to empower Corps Members through training in agribusiness in a ceremony held on May 3rd, 2021 at the LFN/FCT Training School, Yaba.
Following the MOU signing, LFN carried out sensitization workshops across selected NYSC orientation camps on Saturday 22nd May, 2021. Corps members were acquainted with Leventis Foundation activities and how they can benefit from the LFN-NYSC partnership on agribusiness. An online application portal was opened for interested corps members willing to apply. Applicants will be screened and those selected would be posted to LFN agricultural training schools for their service year to learn agribusiness.
Leventis Foundation Nigeria (LFN) is working with Winrock International to review and enhance LFNs agribusiness curriculum. This Winrock curriculum review support, involving Farmer-to-Farmer volunteers from the United States, is in four technical areas of agribusiness: agribusiness curriculum development, managing resilient value chains, leveraging renewable natural resources for sustainable agricultural practices and building faculty pedagogical skills to effectively deliver agricultural education and training (AET) curriculums. The volunteers are working with a select group of faculty members drawn from the campuses of the LFN Agricultural Training Schools to develop and review syllabuses for LFNs one-year training curriculum.
Winrock International is a United States-based non-profit organization implementing the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded John Ogonowski and Doug Bereuter Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) Program in Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana, Guinea (Conakry) and Mali. This innovative, demand-driven program aims to achieve rapid, sustainable, and broad-based food security and economic growth in the agriculture sector and through formal education institutions such as colleges of education, colleges of agriculture, polytechnics and vocational colleges and non-formal entities such as agricultural development programs (ADP), agribusinesses, associations, and cooperatives that engage in farmer education and training.
The consortium comprising of Leventis Foundation Nigeria, Netherland-African Business Council (NABC), Delphy BV, Verbos Academy and Kucheza BV won a tailor-made training grant from the Dutch Government and is currently implementing horticultural training for staff of Center for Dryland Agriculture, Bayero University and farmers in Northern Nigeria under The Orange Knowledge programme, a 195-m Dutch development programme, available in 53 developing countries and managed by Nuffic, a Dutch non-profit organisation for internationalisation in education. Launched mid-2017, it aims to have provided tens of thousands with the possibility to change their future through education and training by mid-2022.
