LFN AGRICULTURAL TRAINING SCHOOL, TUMU, GOMBE STATE
The school is located in Tumu, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State and it is about 47km from Gombe town. The site was used by the former Agric Institute with very good space and a lot of training facilities. The MOU between the state government and Leventis Foundation was signed on 10th April 2007 and the school commenced operations on 27th April 2008.
The School is co-educational and has a travel distance of 28km from Gombe the State Capital and 588km from Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. About 100 hectares arable land is available to the school for the cultivation of maize, millet, sorghum, rice, soybean, cowpea, suitable in a semi arid region with an annual rainfall of about 400 – 600mm, allowing for one cropping season, between June and October. Some form of irrigation activity is done by the school, particularly, in the cultivation of vegetable crops like spinach, pumpkins and capsicum sp. The School also keeps a sizeable number of livestock such as cattle, poultry, sheep and goats.
- Crop: Maize, sorghum, millet, rice, cowpea, soya beans, assorted vegetables
- Agroforestry: Assorted seedlings orchard crops, orchard plantation, bee keeping, etc
- Livestock: Poultry, rabbit, cattle, sheep and goat, fish farming
- RED: Batik, tie and dye production, confectionaries production, etc.
- Engineering: Simple tool fabrication
Egg Production Project:
a. Presently LFN Schools have poultry pen of maximum of 1,000 layers capacity, with the construction of 2,500 capacity poultry pen, Tumu School is fully prepared to increase its scope of egg production. The stocking of the new poultry pen with day old pullets has commenced. When the laying of the birds commence it will be a big relieve to people whom the present egg supply of the school can not satisfy.
