To kick-Start, the Leventis Foundation Nigeria 30th year Anniversary celebration, Leventis Agricultural Training School, FCT had its regional celebration within its premises on the 11th of October, 2018.
The Principal of the School, Mrs Agnes Yusuf, in her opening remarks welcomed the Special Guests, Staff, Ex-trainees, Trainees and Farmers at the event to celebrate thirty (30) years of the Foundation’s remarkable outreach to farmers all over Nigeria.
The Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Abuja, Professor E. Salako in his speech emphasized on the student’s understanding of agricultural value chains in order to improve the livelihood of practising farmers in the country. He added that the Foundation needs to embrace other areas of modern agriculture such as precision crop and animal farming.
The Second Speaker, Dean of Student Affairs, University of Lokoja, Dr Abel Joseph, commended the efforts of Leventis Foundation Nigeria’s agricultural training schools for its focus on the practical aspects of agriculture. He said that it is a major shift from the over-dependence on the theoretical aspect of agriculture as skill acquisition became very important.
The Honorable Secretary, Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, FCT, Hon. Stanley Ifeanyichukwu in his remark promised that the Ex-trainees of the training school will benefit from the diverse farm inputs to be distributed by the FCT such as seeds and seedlings, farm machinery, agrochemicals at a 50% discounted, and access to Anchor Borrower’s Scheme for them to kick-off their agribusinesses. He finally congratulated the Foundation on the celebration of three decades of sustainable livelihood for farmers in Nigeria.
